Property tax shock

» Read similar stories filed under:

Now that the 7% cap on property tax increases has been phased out, we're all paying more:

In Morgan Park, property taxes jumped 4.9%. Beverly neighbors are paying 10.6% more, but the biggest increase was in Mount Greenwood, where homeowners are paying 13.7% more.

You probably received your tax bill last week. What do you think of the phase-out - and will it affect your decision to stay in the area?

As a disabled person, this is just a killer to my budget. I can't afford to sell at a loss. I'm stuck. And drowning. Ginger, you got an extra million for set asides and a 6% raise for your part time job. So did "da mayor".

Tell Us About Your Neighbors

We all know someone who’s worth the recognition, that neighbor or friend or family member who has an interesting story to tell … but one that not enough people know about. There’s enough bad news today that a little good news about our own neighbors could be just the right thing to keep us focused on what really matters: our community. So why not spread the word? Let us know in 200 words or less why you think someone deserves a little extra recognition. You’ll automatically receive 10 points (50 if we feature that person). Send a Neighbor Name to us.
