Sports facility opens in Evergreen

The Summer Athletic Performance Camps for 2008 are coming to Evergreen Park.

TP Sports Performance, founded in 2002 by Olympian Tom Pukstys,
will host athletic performance camps throughout the summer months at the Evergreen Park Racquet and Fitness Center, 2700 W. 91st St.

Camps will be held during the morning and evening hours and are for athletes aged 11 and older. Speed, agility, power and strength will be covered during the four-week training programs.

And so the story continues for Demetrius Jones, the former Morgan Park star who started at quarterback in the Notre Dame season-opener but subsequently lost the job to Jimmy Clausen following the worst opening loss in Irish history (Georgia Tech trounced ND 33-3).

Jones, who was granted a release from his scholarship Sept. 21 to play for any team that will not be an opponent of Notre Dame during the course of his eligibility (which runs through 2010), enrolled Thursday at No. 24 Cincinnati.

The Brother Rice Crusaders football team was victorious in their season opening showdown against non-conference rival Marist, as they tamed the RedHawks by a final score of 21-14. Despite a slow start, the Brother Rice running game proved to be too much for Marist, who hasn't beaten Brother Rice since 2001.

A large crowd was on hand on Friday, July 13 to witness the fifth annual Beverly Hills Cycling Classic, which kicked off on 107th Street and Longwood Drive. The event was hosted by the Beverly Area Planning Association, and according to many viewers, was a complete success.

Crusaders eliminated by New Trier; fail to place 3rd

The Brother Rice Crusaders baseball team saw their dreams of their first IHSA AA state title since 1976 come to an end Saturday morning with a 7-2 loss to the Trevians of New Trier Township at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. The team failed to win the third place game later in the day, falling to Washington High School, 10-6.
