Holiday entertainment for all ages @ BAC
There’s holiday entertainment for everyone at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. Youngsters will love the clever excitement in “Mrs. Claus, A Holiday Musical.” “Meet Me in St. Louis” is a family-friendly outing. Adults are the perfect audience for the wit and wisecracks of the “Dysfunctional Holiday Revue.”
The Chicago Kids Company presents “Mrs. Claus, A Holiday Musical” on selected weekdays and weekends through Dec. 23. Geared to young theatergoers, the one hour show has become a holiday tradition for families. The show is with spirited music and a charming plot – Santa’s Christmas list is missing and the Elves help Mrs. Claus save the day. Tickets are $10 per person and group rates are available.
This year’s annual holiday performance showcasing the talents of student actors age 9 to 18 working along side adult actors is “Meet Me in St. Louis.” The heartwarming story of a family visiting the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, the show features memorable musical numbers including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Trolley Song.”
Performances will be Fri., Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m., Sat., Dec. 5, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sun., Dec. 6, 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($8 for BAC members, students and seniors).
Actors age 7 to 9 will perform in “Frosty the Snowman,” Sat., Dec. 12 and Sun., Dec. 13, 3 p.m. In this classic winter story, a snowman comes to life. The show is filled with cheery musical numbers. Tickets are $10 ($8 for BAC members, seniors and students.)
The music of Irving Berlin is at the heart of “A White Christmas Holiday Revue” on Sun., Dec. 20, 3 p.m. From a World War II performance for the troops to a charming New England resort town, this holiday musical, inspired by the film classic “White Christmas,” takes audiences on a magical holiday journey.
Featuring 30 favorite tunes such as “Home For The Holidays,” “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and “White Christmas,” this unforgettable matinee performance will warm your heart with its with lavish costumes, classic music, gentle comedy and timeless sentiment.
The Second City Touring Company returns with their newest version of the popular satire of classic holiday scenes and songs, “Dysfunctional Holiday Revue.”
Funny, fast-paced and completely original, The Second City’s “Dysfunctional Holiday Revue” is a raucous blend of sketches, songs and improvisation with a healthy dose of seasonal satire – the perfect alternative to the same old holiday shows. Holiday film classics, family gatherings, improvised Christmas carols – nothing is too sacred for the Second City ensemble.
Show dates are Sat., Dec. 19 and Sat., Dec. 26 at 8 p.m.; and Thurs., Dec. 31, 9 p.m. as part of the Center’s New Year’s Eve Bash. Tickets to the Dec. 19 and 26 performances are $25 ($22 for BAC members, $20 per person for groups of 20 or more). Tickets to the New Year’s Eve Bash are $80 through Dec. 1 and $100 after Dec. 1, and include the show, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, open bar, live music, dancing and champagne toast at midnight.
