There has been a population explosion in Mt Greenwood. With the economy spiraling down, our public schools are packed. We need a building for Pre-K and K to bring down classroom size. We also need a neighborhood High School. The Ag is a fantastic school but only takes in about 30% of our Mount Greenwood neighborhood. So where do we build these, who will pay for it and can it be done? Several options open for discussion:

A Charter School- Yes I know it is anti union. I hate that part but it would be funded privately and building seems to take less time. CPS does not have the funds to build new schools....at least not in Mount Greenwood.

Put up for a vote at election time to raise Mt Greenwood taxes for this project. This money would go specifically towards the building and running of these schools. Yes, times are hard and I realize raising taxes is not a favorable option. I would be open to it knowing it was going to our neighborhood exclusively. It would be voted on by the people.

Places to build: At either or both Elementary Schools, on the failed 111th and Kedzie redevelopment, empty lot across from the Ag........can we acquire some of the cemetery land? 111th and Pulaski?

So Mount Greenwood, what are your thoughts? Yes, you pay your taxes now and why can't CPS do something for us......I hear you. We must be proactive and think of solutions to help us in the now/near future not 10 years from now. Any other ideas?
