Help sought for Mosaic project

Categorized under:

This is just a reminder that on Monday, April 14th we will start working on the mosaics that will later be installed on the seven totems in the playlot.

The designs are amazing. We know you all will be very impressed. We hope to have them on the website soon.

We would like everyone to come out and help create these beautiful works of art. You may have some questions - so perhaps this will help:

*** Where are the mosaic going to be worked on?

We have set up a temporary studio at Mt. Greenwood Park in the Ceramics Building. The Ceramics Building is the little building just south of the playlot near the fence by St. Christina Field - you will enter the door on the southside of the building (closest to the park's baseball fields - right off the walking path)

*** When will you be working on the mosaics?

The studio will be open most Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6pm in April, May, and the first two weeks of June. To see all the dates we will be working. Follow this link: http://www.mountgreenwoodpark.com/Mosaic_dates.htm

The dates for April are:
Mon. 14-begin with mosaic
Thurs. 17-mosaic
Sat. 19-mosaic 11am-1pm
Mon. 21-mosaic
Wed 23-mosaic
Mon. 28-mosaic
Wed. 30-mosaic

*** Who can work on the mosaics?

Anyone! Community residents, grandmas & grandpas, moms & dads, art teachers, artists, students... everyone! You do not have to be aertistic to be a part of the process! Since mosaics are created from bits of broken tiles we are not allowing children under six in the studio for safety reasons. Children from six to
12 must have an adult to supervise/help them. Some of the tools required to create the mosaics do take a bit of strength so a lionshare of the work will be done by junior high school students, high school student, college age and other adults.

*** Must I pre-register?

No, you do not HAVE to pre-register nor sign-up, you may drop by the studio during any of the hours it is open. However; we would prefer that you contact us and sign up and let us know what day(s) you would like to
work. This way we won't have 100 people one day and zero the next. Also, if we have your contact information we can send you an email to remind you
that you have scheduled yourself to work.

*** Where and how do I sign up?

You can sign up one of two ways... you can email us at this email address: mosaics@mountgreenwoodpark.com or stop by the studio during open hours and put your name on the schedule. Please include your name, email
address, and phone number.

*** I heard you could get service hours... is this true?

Yes, we will be offering service hours to those students that need them. In order to get service hours the student must show up promptly, work hard, and follow instructions.

*** What do I wear?

We suggest older comfortable clothes. Working with tile can be messy. Also, NO open-toe shoes (ie. flip flops / sandals) will be allowed in the studio for safety reasons.

*** If I have any additional questions who do I contact?

The community liason for this project is Kathleen Riordan, please address all questions to her at 773-238-6762 or use this email address:
mosaics@mountgreenwoodpark.com

We look forward to seeing you in the studio!
