Former Mt. Carmel and Saint Xavier right-hander David Cales has been drafted by the Cubs. The North Siders waited until the 24th round to take an Illinois native during the 2008 draft last week.

It's good to see Saint Xavier athletes being associated with Chicago teams.
Former kicker Shane Longest signed a contract with the Chicago Bears in April. He will probably kick a lot in the preseason, sharing time with Robbie Gould. Shane definitely has the leg to kick in the NFL.
Even though he won't beat out Robbie Gould for the Bears' job, he should get a chance to be a full-time NFL kicker.
Good luck to David Cales. I wish I had made it out to the Baseball field this year to see him pitch.

Well, Shane Longest was recently cut by the Bears. Hopefully some other team will pick him up so we can see him kick in preseason.
