As the debate continues about the merits of public schools education vs. private school education, staff and administrators at area Catholic elementary schools are probably pleased with the latest news about their students' standardized test scores: Students in the Archdiocese of Chicago recorded scores higher than the national average this year.

As Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis takes heat for the city's rising crime rate, Beverly and Morgan Park neighbors are reeling from two separate shootings just four days - and two miles - apart that killed two and left two more injured.

In both shootings the victims were shot several times, and police have said that they don't suspect robbery as a motive. The circumstances are similar, the timing is remarkable, and the proximity of the shootings is worth noting. Do you think the shootings were related to gang activity?
